Hmm, Im not so sure the second one fits right.  Simply because it 'looks' like wire mesh, whereas the top one doesnt.  The tripods eyes aren't famous for being a wire mesh and I feel thats exactly what they will look like using a mesh that 'open'.  From the images, the top one could be anything, it's construction is not obvious and that pretty much what I would use for a martian material.

Impressive looking model so far dude, I'll keep my eye on this thread

THe second one seems a bit industrial - to much like wire mesh as you said. I think the first is better.

Thanks all for your input about the eyes. I think I'll cast both out of green clear resin so they can be swapped about.
Well the main body has gone into RTV this week and came out a treat (my first major mold) not one air bubble in sight .
Still aint done the legs yet though, dreading that a bit dont know why though, I've already built the rest.

Wow! Super awesome! It really looks like a professional kit. You've got a great talent for model-making.

Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Thanks for the nice comments.
Here is the latest installment.I've cast one set of eyes  out of green resin just to see how they'd look.I know not a lot of you liked these but I'm going to do the other type aswell.

Then I tried it with a torch behind it ,I think it came out pretty well .

Ditto that!  Any way you can rig that for the final version or would it have to be a mk.II job??
