"One thing that struck me about ID4 was the 'homage' to War of the Worlds?" - Duncan McCleod

And I thought I was the only one who thought like that!!! One question about the book. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BROTHER AND MISS ELPHINSTONE? They seemed to drop out. A little unfair considering how few characters have actual names.

Hey,

One funny thing I read in 'The Daily Express' last night...

H.G.Wells used to write with a large pen for 'BIG words' and a smaller pen for 'SHORTER words'.

Howz about that then pals? !

I use a "Jeff Wayne" pen for 'Jeff Wayne Writings"   and a NO PEN for others!

Beat it !

ID4 was no less than a rip off of TWoTW, plotwise.

But...

IMO,

It was done in such an entertaining fashion as to excuse itself.

I always love to see people trying to bring the story to life.

Some work better than others... but we have to ake what we can get.

It was handled with such a sense of humour! The casting was great (love Brent Spiner) I still get a kick out of the muppets rip

i must admit that it took me a very long time to get round to reading the book!! it was never one on offer in school so i really didnt think about it till the spielberg version came out so the book was re released! so i finally picked up a copy and jsut couldnt put it down!

i was amazed at the date the book was written and the fact that he imagined these great machines, his imaginations was amazing and the detail well some bits did freak me out.

i am planning on picking it up again but not till the summer hols when i dont work and wont have my NVQ to be done!!!

looking forward to it again!!!!!

No, lol. I was to scared thanks to Mr Wayne anyway. I am glad the don't do it at school. I don't know if it is just the way the approach things in school or if it is just human nature, but many a brilliant book has been ruined in the class room, books I really enjoy now!

I've probably read a copy yearly.  I've sort of been religiously reading the novel at least once a year for a good few years now...

Always good to read in June!
