I just got my hands on a nice hard cover version and love it! The creepiest thing, to me, is when the journalist sees the downed tripod during the siege of Weybridge. The thing writhing on the ground with orange/red liquid gushing out of it. It makes you realize that the tripods are more monsters than machines.

Hmm, I always assumed that the Martian had combine organic and metal parts to make their machines... Really makes you think...

But anyway, my favourite chapters are "Thunderchild" and "What we saw from the ruined house" and also "Dead London.

I can never decide between them^^

The ancient red dust glows in the dim light,
Our cities stand tall and reek of might.
We are the people of Mars.
Set to conquer the stars.

ULLA!

Monstrous tripods, higher than the tallest steeple, striding over the pine trees and smashing them.Walking engines of glittering metal. Each carried a huge funnel ,and i realised with horror that i had seen this thing before.
