Here`s the Martain Fighting Machine at Woking, which I took a photo of on Sunday 26th June - It`s a nice structure, maybe not quite as HG Wells invisaged it, but the artist did a good job and it has stood in it`s place since 1998 in the center of Woking.

hopefully that should do it, I didn`t realise that local images don`t get uploaded into posts, just html - so hopefully that will work, both times the image showed up in the posts.

That's cool!
I found a page where a few other pics of the Martian are:

How does Woking look like? Is there still some similarity to the description in book?

Hi, he road names are in place, but I would say that it has ost definitely changed - roads, buildings, town layout, but as I wasn`t around during HG Wells days I couldn`t tell you for sure, although I can tell you that the orientation of the Martian is supposed to be as if it is going in the right direction (from Horsel Common)

I didn`t really have much time to explore, other areas as there was a road blocked off and a major diversion (which I went round twice!) - It looks like there is a HG Wells walk,as I saw several signs

If you want to find out more about the martian structure and it`s construction, checkout -

Well, I should have guessed that Woking looks mostly different now.
My town also has changed in the last century, except a few streets.

I`ve fixed the link to my Ftp space rather than the photo gallery, they`ve just changed policies & have gone for adverts recently too
