A Personal Message from Jeff...

Greetings everyone,

It has been a while since I last wrote a personal message, but with a new year now well under way, I thought it a good time to update you about the exciting year ahead for The War of The Worlds.

For some, you may already know that in November 2013 we announced that TWOTW will once again be touring arenas around the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands commencing in November, 2014.

We’re extremely excited to be returning to many of the venues we have performed previously, and what’s even more overwhelming is, so far, due to phenomenal demand, we’ve added extra dates to Cardiff, Bournemouth and Brighton!

What highlights this as such significant news in TWOTW history, is that it will be ‘The Final Arena Tour’.

With such a striking headline, I realise it has left many of you asking ‘why’?!

Bringing The War of The Worlds to life since 2006 in many of the world’s finest arenas has been the most amazing experience for me and all those who have joined me in our quest to defeat the Martians!

We’ve achieved far more than we ever thought was possible, both musically and technologically. In 2006 TWOTW was already considered a very large production – six massive trucks hauling all the gear, special effects, sets, etc. around. We are now up to 12, which gives you an idea of how I never wanted to just take our production ‘out of the box’ and perform TWOTW the same way each tour.

To me it’s been a living work, to be developed and expanded, with love and attention to detail each time out. And with each tour, I’d like to think that one of the reasons we’ve seen so many fans return, as well as new ones being keen to see TWOTW for the first time, is for exactly that reason, and for that support, I am so very appreciative…

However, the time is right to take The War of The Worlds in new directions after the 2014 tour.
Details about The Final Arena tour are available on our Home Page, or, if you would like to purchase tickets immediately, please CLICK HERE.

Some information on the cast so far…

We will once again see the return of Liam Neeson’s spell-binding, 3D holographic performance as the role of The Journalist. He has successfully proven to our audiences, that with his compelling interpretation and expanded storyline, he has given The New Generation a new lease of life. And while it’s but a passing moment, we’re still getting Forum posts and letters asking how do we get The Journalist to hand a glass of water to our Artilleryman live on stage for him to drink – a Dynamo ‘moment’ perhaps, and one we’ll never tell!

We are grateful to have yet another returning cast member - Jason Donovan - who will reprise his role from the 2012-2013 tour, as Parson Nathaniel. He told me how excited he is to be involved once again with TWOTW for the third time – and so am I. He’s a great talent, and a very nice man!

New additions to this year’s cast includes Westlife’s Brian McFadden, West End Star Carrie Hope Fletcher, and X Factor’s Joseph Whelan. I have no doubt these distinguished artistes will bring a fresh new approach to each of their roles.

Brian McFadden is best known as one of the members of the hugely successful Irish band, Westlife, having sold over 50 million records worldwide, and accumulating 14 number-one singles in the UK. Brian will be portraying The Sung Thoughts of The Journalist, including performing the two international Hit Singles “’The Eve of The War’” and “’Forever Autumn’”.

West End’s current Eponine in the acclaimed Les Miserables’, Carrie Hope Fletcher, will play Beth, Parson Nathaniel’s wife. Carrie has a most beautiful voice and has a wonderful stage presence, so be prepared for a most moving performance. With a significant YouTube following, Carrie is also part of a musical family – her brother being guitarist, Tom Fletcher from McFly.

X Factor’s Joseph Whelan is the latest cast member to be announced. Whilst acting as guest judge on the popular show, Robbie Williams raved about Joseph’s ‘raucous’ voice – the perfect style for the role of The Voice of Humanity. A huge rock music fan himself, and already hitting the Number 1 spot in the iTunes rock chart with his debut album, I can’t wait to hear him put his own stamp on this role.

With an already impressive line-up, and one more guest artiste to be announced very soon, I can already feel that this is going to be an exhilarating and electrifying final tour!

November 2013 also saw the release of the DVD and Blu-ray of TWOTW, filmed live from the O2 in 2012. Not only was this a sell-out tour, but the DVD and Blu-ray have been hovering at the top of the charts – our best position yet has been an impressive No.2, pipped on its debut week to the No.1 spot by Beyoncé!

TWOTW story is, of course, from the vision and imagination of HG Wells. Written first for Pearson’s magazine in 1897 as an episodic adventure, then later novelised in 1898, it has never been out of print, and always being recognised with its core themes about invasion, faith and hope as relevant in the world we live, no matter what generation discovers what has been confirmed as the first science fiction story ever written – albeit taking place entirely on Earth.

As it’s turning out, the announcement of The Final Arena Tour has also coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Orson Welles iconic 1938 radio adaptation, the 35th anniversary of the release of my original double album and the 115th anniversary of HG Wells’ classic novel. Quite a momentous year for TWOTW!

No one would have believed 2014 would be the year of ‘The Final Arena Tour’. We have sold out virtually every tour we’ve played, and met so many super people along the so way, so I will face this tour with truly mixed emotions.

Conducting my own work since 2006 has been a true privilege, and with every tour working with so many talented artists and musicians, those who make the production happen behind the stage, those who move and feed us from city to city, country to country, as well as our promoters who believed in TWOTW from the start, one learns very quickly how entirely collaborative TWOTW has been. So the biggest of thank yous to everyone.

I also owe my co-producer of our tours, Damian Collier, a very special thank you for all the efforts he has put in to keep our ship afloat. We have laughed and cried at times over the years, but we have never stopped believing.

However, the time will be right to take The War of The Worlds in new and exciting directions.
We know where we are heading with the Good Ship Thunder Child, and very excited about announcing what the next adventure will be for TWOTW. An announcement will happen soon after our Final Arena Tour is completed. For the moment though, all I can say is… watch this space!
