The UK's Official Albums Chart began 60 years ago this week, with Frank Sinatra’s Songs For Swinging Lovers taking the first top spot on July 22, 1956.

We’re extremely excited to announce that Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds has been placed on the list at No.37 out of 60!

The War of The Worlds is honoured to be included with other musical greats such as Queen, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Mike Oldfield, to name just a few.

It’s also worth mentioning, there was a time when the Official Charts didn’t combine Greatest Hits into the main album charts - the official Music Week charts separated them as they weren’t recognised as ‘original’ recordings, and had enjoyed their initial success as Singles. Even soundtrack albums were separated as well.

So if you look at this new chart, there’s something like 5 or 6 Greatest Hits albums above TWOTW including the No1 & No.2, and several listed below it. In addition, TWOTW is the only original double album listed, giving it a unique status in this category – if there was a chart solely for original double albums, we’d be at No.1!
